The first form of roulette was devised in 17th centuryFrance, by the mathematician Blaise Pascal, who was supposedly inspired by hisfascination with perpetual motion devices. If Nevada rules are in force, you lose the entire even-moneybet on 0 or 00. When the ball comes to rest in one of the slots, the dealer willcall out the winning number and settle all bets. Players make bets by placingchips in various locations on the table. After all bets are placed, the croupierspins the wheel in one direction and tosses the small ball in the oppositedirection. The ball comes to rest on one number – the winning number for thespin. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem. SplitBets - Pay 17 to 1. Place a chip in between any two adjacent numbers. Quad (Corner)Bets - Pay 8 to 1. Place a chip between any four number groupings, and you getall four numbers in that group. Double Street (SixNumber) Bets - Pay 5 to 1. Place a chip in between streets that are side byside to get all six numbers in the double streets. Black, Red, Odd, Even, 1-18,19-36 - Pay 1 to 1.
