In the early 1800s, roulette was brought into the U.S.where, to further increase house odds, a second zero, "00", wasintroduced. There are 2 types of roulette, American andEuropean. The European roulette wheel is divided into 37 slots, numbered 1 through 36,plus 0. The roulette dealer will exchange yourchips for regular chips when you are done playing. The main pockets arenumbered from 1 to 36 and alternate between red and black, with number 1 beingred. In most roulette wheels in theUnited States but not in Europe, there is a second zero compartment marked 00,colored green. If a player bets on a single number and wins, the payout is35 to 1. Aplayer can bet on numbers, combinations, ranges, odds/evens, and colors. A wheel having a corresponding set ofnumbers is spun. The odds vary depending upon the specific type bet. American wheels have an additional green section marked 00. If Nevada rules are in force, you lose the entire even-moneybet on 0 or 00. If you play black-red, odd/evenor high-low, you must place the table minimum for each & every bet. All players placetheir bets. The dealer spins a small ball in the opposite direction of thespinning wheel. When the ball comes to rest in one of the slots, the dealer willcall out the winning number and settle all bets. The ball comes to rest on one number – the winning number for thespin. SplitBets - Pay 17 to 1. Place a chip in between any two adjacent numbers. Street (Trio or Three Number) Bets - Pay 11 to 1.Place a chip on the horizontal line across the top of the layout on any of thetwelve columns of three numbers. Quint Bet - Pays 6 to 1. The only possiblefive number grouping in the Roulette layout is 0-00-1-2-3. Double Street (SixNumber) Bets - Pay 5 to 1. Place a chip in between streets that are side byside to get all six numbers in the double streets. Black, Red, Odd, Even, 1-18,19-36 - Pay 1 to 1.
