About Roulette
In 1842, fellow Frenchmen Françoisand Louis Blanc added the "0" to the roulette wheel in order toincrease house odds. (In some forms of early American roulette the double-zero wasreplaced by an American Eagle.) In the 1800s, roulette spread all over bothEurope and the U.S., becoming one of the most famous and most popular casinogames. The American roulette is divided in to 38 slots, numbered 1 through 36, plus 0 and00. Each player isassigned different color of chip, allowing the dealer differentiate bets andmatch them to the right players.chips are worthless at the other tablesin the same casino, so do not bother trying to stack them under your blackjackchips or anything foolish like that. In most roulette wheels in theUnited States but not in Europe, there is a second zero compartment marked 00,colored green. The table layout consists of areaswhich represent a number or series of numbers. A wheel having a corresponding set ofnumbers is spun. The bet wins if the number resulting from the spin matches thenumbers you bet upon. Roulette is a glamorous and exciting gamethat's easy to play. The main goal of the game is to bet on the slot where theroulette ball falls. The game uses a special wheel, a betting layout, andchips. The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, eachof which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun. The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd andhalf even) plus a green section marked 0. European wheels have only the 0 greensection. American wheels have an additional green section marked 00. Theaddition of the 00 section greatly increases the odds in favor of the house. When the ball comes to rest in one of the slots, the dealer willcall out the winning number and settle all bets. Players make bets by placingchips in various locations on the table. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem. Tiers("The third") - This is the name for the numbers which lie on theopposite side of the wheel between 27 and 33 including 27 and 33 themselves. The series is 27,13,26,11,30,8,23,20,5,24,16,33 (on a single zero wheel)Orphelins ("Orphans") - These numbers make up the two slices of thewheel outside the Tiers and Voisins. They contain a total of eight numbers, theOrphans comprising 17,34,6 and the Orphelins being 1,20,14,31,9. Street (Trio or Three Number) Bets - Pay 11 to 1.Place a chip on the horizontal line across the top of the layout on any of thetwelve columns of three numbers. Quint Bet - Pays 6 to 1. The only possiblefive number grouping in the Roulette layout is 0-00-1-2-3. Dozen Bets: 1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12 - Pay 2 to 1.
