In 1842, fellow Frenchmen Françoisand Louis Blanc added the "0" to the roulette wheel in order toincrease house odds. In the early 1800s, roulette was brought into the U.S.where, to further increase house odds, a second zero, "00", wasintroduced. Some call roulette the "King of Casino Games", probably becauseit was associated with the glamour of the casinos in Monte Carlo. The roulette dealer will exchange yourchips for regular chips when you are done playing. Roulette is a French word meaning"small wheel". A croupier turns a round roulette wheel which has 37 or38 separately numbered pockets in which a ball must land. If a player bets on a single number and wins, the payout is35 to 1. The bet itself is returned, so in total it is multiplied by 36. The bet wins if the number resulting from the spin matches thenumbers you bet upon. The odds vary depending upon the specific type bet. The main goal of the game is to bet on the slot where theroulette ball falls. When Atlantic City rules are used in Roulette: For any even-money bets,if the ball lands on 0 or 00, half of the amount of any even-money bet isreturned to you. All players placetheir bets. The dealer spins a small ball in the opposite direction of thespinning wheel. Players make bets by placingchips in various locations on the table. After all bets are placed, the croupierspins the wheel in one direction and tosses the small ball in the oppositedirection. The ball comes to rest on one number – the winning number for thespin. Voisins ("Neighbors") - This is a name for the numbers which liebetween 22 and 25 on the wheel including 22 and 25 themselves. The series is22,18,29,7,28,12,35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2,25 (on a single zero wheel) Straight-Up Bets - Pay 35 to 1. Place a chip on any single number. Street (Trio or Three Number) Bets - Pay 11 to 1.Place a chip on the horizontal line across the top of the layout on any of thetwelve columns of three numbers. Black, Red, Odd, Even, 1-18,19-36 - Pay 1 to 1. Dozen Bets: 1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12 - Pay 2 to 1.
