About Roulette
In 1842, fellow Frenchmen Françoisand Louis Blanc added the "0" to the roulette wheel in order toincrease house odds. (In some forms of early American roulette the double-zero wasreplaced by an American Eagle.) In the 1800s, roulette spread all over bothEurope and the U.S., becoming one of the most famous and most popular casinogames. Some call roulette the "King of Casino Games", probably becauseit was associated with the glamour of the casinos in Monte Carlo. The roulette dealer will exchange yourchips for regular chips when you are done playing. A croupier turns a round roulette wheel which has 37 or38 separately numbered pockets in which a ball must land. Aplayer can bet on numbers, combinations, ranges, odds/evens, and colors. The table layout consists of areaswhich represent a number or series of numbers. A wheel having a corresponding set ofnumbers is spun. The bet wins if the number resulting from the spin matches thenumbers you bet upon. Roulette is a glamorous and exciting gamethat's easy to play. The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, eachof which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun. The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd andhalf even) plus a green section marked 0. American wheels have an additional green section marked 00. Forthis reason, Roulette is not as popular in United States casinos as it is inEurope. When Atlantic City rules are used in Roulette: For any even-money bets,if the ball lands on 0 or 00, half of the amount of any even-money bet isreturned to you. If you play black-red, odd/evenor high-low, you must place the table minimum for each & every bet. After all bets are placed, the croupierspins the wheel in one direction and tosses the small ball in the oppositedirection. The ball comes to rest on one number – the winning number for thespin. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem. Voisins ("Neighbors") - This is a name for the numbers which liebetween 22 and 25 on the wheel including 22 and 25 themselves. The series is22,18,29,7,28,12,35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2,25 (on a single zero wheel) Tiers("The third") - This is the name for the numbers which lie on theopposite side of the wheel between 27 and 33 including 27 and 33 themselves. The series is 27,13,26,11,30,8,23,20,5,24,16,33 (on a single zero wheel)Orphelins ("Orphans") - These numbers make up the two slices of thewheel outside the Tiers and Voisins. They contain a total of eight numbers, theOrphans comprising 17,34,6 and the Orphelins being 1,20,14,31,9. SplitBets - Pay 17 to 1. Place a chip in between any two adjacent numbers.
