There are 2 types of roulette, American andEuropean. The American roulette is divided in to 38 slots, numbered 1 through 36, plus 0 and00. The European roulette wheel is divided into 37 slots, numbered 1 through 36,plus 0. The roulette dealer will exchange yourchips for regular chips when you are done playing. A croupier turns a round roulette wheel which has 37 or38 separately numbered pockets in which a ball must land. If a player bets on a single number and wins, the payout is35 to 1. The bet itself is returned, so in total it is multiplied by 36. The basic rules of Roulette are simple. Bets are placed on these numbersby putting chips on the appropriate areas. The odds vary depending upon the specific type bet. The game uses a special wheel, a betting layout, andchips. The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, eachof which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun.The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd andhalf even) plus a green section marked 0. American wheels have an additional green section marked 00. If Nevada rules are in force, you lose the entire even-moneybet on 0 or 00. All players placetheir bets. After all bets are placed, the croupierspins the wheel in one direction and tosses the small ball in the oppositedirection. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem. Tiers("The third") - This is the name for the numbers which lie on theopposite side of the wheel between 27 and 33 including 27 and 33 themselves.The series is 27,13,26,11,30,8,23,20,5,24,16,33 (on a single zero wheel)Orphelins ("Orphans") - These numbers make up the two slices of thewheel outside the Tiers and Voisins. They contain a total of eight numbers, theOrphans comprising 17,34,6 and the Orphelins being 1,20,14,31,9. Street (Trio or Three Number) Bets - Pay 11 to 1.Place a chip on the horizontal line across the top of the layout on any of thetwelve columns of three numbers. Quint Bet - Pays 6 to 1. The only possiblefive number grouping in the Roulette layout is 0-00-1-2-3. Dozen Bets: 1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12 - Pay 2 to 1.
