About Roulette
In 1842, fellow Frenchmen Françoisand Louis Blanc added the "0" to the roulette wheel in order toincrease house odds. Some call roulette the "King of Casino Games", probably becauseit was associated with the glamour of the casinos in Monte Carlo. The American roulette is divided in to 38 slots, numbered 1 through 36, plus 0 and00. The European roulette wheel is divided into 37 slots, numbered 1 through 36,plus 0. The main pockets arenumbered from 1 to 36 and alternate between red and black, with number 1 beingred. The bet itself is returned, so in total it is multiplied by 36. Bets are placed on these numbersby putting chips on the appropriate areas. The bet wins if the number resulting from the spin matches thenumbers you bet upon. The game uses a special wheel, a betting layout, andchips. The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, eachof which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun.The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd andhalf even) plus a green section marked 0. European wheels have only the 0 greensection. Theaddition of the 00 section greatly increases the odds in favor of the house. When Atlantic City rules are used in Roulette: For any even-money bets,if the ball lands on 0 or 00, half of the amount of any even-money bet isreturned to you. If Nevada rules are in force, you lose the entire even-moneybet on 0 or 00. Roulette is a banking game: all bets are placed against the house. If you play black-red, odd/evenor high-low, you must place the table minimum for each & every bet. All players placetheir bets. Voisins ("Neighbors") - This is a name for the numbers which liebetween 22 and 25 on the wheel including 22 and 25 themselves. The series is22,18,29,7,28,12,35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2,25 (on a single zero wheel) Tiers("The third") - This is the name for the numbers which lie on theopposite side of the wheel between 27 and 33 including 27 and 33 themselves.The series is 27,13,26,11,30,8,23,20,5,24,16,33 (on a single zero wheel)Orphelins ("Orphans") - These numbers make up the two slices of thewheel outside the Tiers and Voisins. They contain a total of eight numbers, theOrphans comprising 17,34,6 and the Orphelins being 1,20,14,31,9. SplitBets - Pay 17 to 1. Place a chip in between any two adjacent numbers. Dozen Bets: 1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12 - Pay 2 to 1. Column Bets- Pay 2 to 1. Place a chip in a box at the end of one of three columns.
