The first form of roulette was devised in 17th centuryFrance, by the mathematician Blaise Pascal, who was supposedly inspired by hisfascination with perpetual motion devices. In the early 1800s, roulette was brought into the U.S.where, to further increase house odds, a second zero, "00", wasintroduced. There are 2 types of roulette, American andEuropean. Standard American roulette rules have the table usedifferent chips than other table games at the same casino. Roulette is a casino and gambling game. A croupier turns a round roulette wheel which has 37 or38 separately numbered pockets in which a ball must land. In most roulette wheels in theUnited States but not in Europe, there is a second zero compartment marked 00,colored green. The bet itself is returned, so in total it is multiplied by 36. Aplayer can bet on numbers, combinations, ranges, odds/evens, and colors. The basic rules of Roulette are simple. The odds vary depending upon the specific type bet. Roulette is a glamorous and exciting gamethat's easy to play. The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, eachof which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun. The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd andhalf even) plus a green section marked 0. European wheels have only the 0 greensection.
