How to Play Roulette
The first form of roulette was devised in 17th centuryFrance, by the mathematician Blaise Pascal, who was supposedly inspired by hisfascination with perpetual motion devices. In 1842, fellow Frenchmen Françoisand Louis Blanc added the "0" to the roulette wheel in order toincrease house odds. In the early 1800s, roulette was brought into the U.S.where, to further increase house odds, a second zero, "00", wasintroduced. The roulette dealer will exchange yourchips for regular chips when you are done playing. The main pockets arenumbered from 1 to 36 and alternate between red and black, with number 1 beingred. Aplayer can bet on numbers, combinations, ranges, odds/evens, and colors. Bets are placed on these numbersby putting chips on the appropriate areas. American wheels have an additional green section marked 00. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem. SplitBets - Pay 17 to 1. Place a chip in between any two adjacent numbers. Street (Trio or Three Number) Bets - Pay 11 to 1.Place a chip on the horizontal line across the top of the layout on any of thetwelve columns of three numbers. Quint Bet - Pays 6 to 1. The only possiblefive number grouping in the Roulette layout is 0-00-1-2-3. Column Bets- Pay 2 to 1. Place a chip in a box at the end of one of three columns.
