Roulette Rules
The first form of roulette was devised in 17th centuryFrance, by the mathematician Blaise Pascal, who was supposedly inspired by hisfascination with perpetual motion devices. (In some forms of early American roulette the double-zero wasreplaced by an American Eagle.) In the 1800s, roulette spread all over bothEurope and the U.S., becoming one of the most famous and most popular casinogames. Some call roulette the "King of Casino Games", probably becauseit was associated with the glamour of the casinos in Monte Carlo. The American roulette is divided in to 38 slots, numbered 1 through 36, plus 0 and00. Roulette is a casino and gambling game. The main pockets arenumbered from 1 to 36 and alternate between red and black, with number 1 beingred. The bet itself is returned, so in total it is multiplied by 36. The basic rules of Roulette are simple. The table layout consists of areaswhich represent a number or series of numbers. The main goal of the game is to bet on the slot where theroulette ball falls. The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, eachof which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun.The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd andhalf even) plus a green section marked 0. European wheels have only the 0 greensection. Theaddition of the 00 section greatly increases the odds in favor of the house. Forthis reason, Roulette is not as popular in United States casinos as it is inEurope. If Nevada rules are in force, you lose the entire even-moneybet on 0 or 00. Roulette is a banking game: all bets are placed against the house. All players placetheir bets. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem. Voisins ("Neighbors") - This is a name for the numbers which liebetween 22 and 25 on the wheel including 22 and 25 themselves. The series is22,18,29,7,28,12,35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2,25 (on a single zero wheel) Tiers("The third") - This is the name for the numbers which lie on theopposite side of the wheel between 27 and 33 including 27 and 33 themselves.The series is 27,13,26,11,30,8,23,20,5,24,16,33 (on a single zero wheel)Orphelins ("Orphans") - These numbers make up the two slices of thewheel outside the Tiers and Voisins. They contain a total of eight numbers, theOrphans comprising 17,34,6 and the Orphelins being 1,20,14,31,9. Quint Bet - Pays 6 to 1. The only possiblefive number grouping in the Roulette layout is 0-00-1-2-3. Column Bets- Pay 2 to 1. Place a chip in a box at the end of one of three columns.
