Roulette Rules
The first form of roulette was devised in 17th centuryFrance, by the mathematician Blaise Pascal, who was supposedly inspired by hisfascination with perpetual motion devices. (In some forms of early American roulette the double-zero wasreplaced by an American Eagle.) In the 1800s, roulette spread all over bothEurope and the U.S., becoming one of the most famous and most popular casinogames. The European roulette wheel is divided into 37 slots, numbered 1 through 36,plus 0. Standard American roulette rules have the table usedifferent chips than other table games at the same casino. A croupier turns a round roulette wheel which has 37 or38 separately numbered pockets in which a ball must land. The main pockets arenumbered from 1 to 36 and alternate between red and black, with number 1 beingred. There is a green pocket numbered 0. If a player bets on a single number and wins, the payout is35 to 1. Bets are placed on these numbersby putting chips on the appropriate areas. The bet wins if the number resulting from the spin matches thenumbers you bet upon. The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, eachof which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun. The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd andhalf even) plus a green section marked 0. European wheels have only the 0 greensection. American wheels have an additional green section marked 00. Theaddition of the 00 section greatly increases the odds in favor of the house. Numbers 1-18 are considered the lows; numbers 19-36 are thehighs. All players placetheir bets. When the ball comes to rest in one of the slots, the dealer willcall out the winning number and settle all bets. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem. Voisins ("Neighbors") - This is a name for the numbers which liebetween 22 and 25 on the wheel including 22 and 25 themselves. The series is22,18,29,7,28,12,35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2,25 (on a single zero wheel) Straight-Up Bets - Pay 35 to 1. Place a chip on any single number. SplitBets - Pay 17 to 1. Place a chip in between any two adjacent numbers. Double Street (SixNumber) Bets - Pay 5 to 1. Place a chip in between streets that are side byside to get all six numbers in the double streets.
