About Roulette
The first form of roulette was devised in 17th centuryFrance, by the mathematician Blaise Pascal, who was supposedly inspired by hisfascination with perpetual motion devices. (In some forms of early American roulette the double-zero wasreplaced by an American Eagle.) In the 1800s, roulette spread all over bothEurope and the U.S., becoming one of the most famous and most popular casinogames. There are 2 types of roulette, American andEuropean. Standard American roulette rules have the table usedifferent chips than other table games at the same casino. The main pockets arenumbered from 1 to 36 and alternate between red and black, with number 1 beingred. There is a green pocket numbered 0. In most roulette wheels in theUnited States but not in Europe, there is a second zero compartment marked 00,colored green. If a player bets on a single number and wins, the payout is35 to 1. The table layout consists of areaswhich represent a number or series of numbers. Bets are placed on these numbersby putting chips on the appropriate areas. A wheel having a corresponding set ofnumbers is spun. The bet wins if the number resulting from the spin matches thenumbers you bet upon. The odds vary depending upon the specific type bet. European wheels have only the 0 greensection. Forthis reason, Roulette is not as popular in United States casinos as it is inEurope. If Nevada rules are in force, you lose the entire even-moneybet on 0 or 00. Players make bets by placingchips in various locations on the table. Voisins ("Neighbors") - This is a name for the numbers which liebetween 22 and 25 on the wheel including 22 and 25 themselves. They contain a total of eight numbers, theOrphans comprising 17,34,6 and the Orphelins being 1,20,14,31,9. Quad (Corner)Bets - Pay 8 to 1.
