Roulette Game
The first form of roulette was devised in 17th centuryFrance, by the mathematician Blaise Pascal, who was supposedly inspired by hisfascination with perpetual motion devices. In 1842, fellow Frenchmen Françoisand Louis Blanc added the "0" to the roulette wheel in order toincrease house odds. (In some forms of early American roulette the double-zero wasreplaced by an American Eagle.) In the 1800s, roulette spread all over bothEurope and the U.S., becoming one of the most famous and most popular casinogames. The American roulette is divided in to 38 slots, numbered 1 through 36, plus 0 and00. There is a green pocket numbered 0. In most roulette wheels in theUnited States but not in Europe, there is a second zero compartment marked 00,colored green. If a player bets on a single number and wins, the payout is35 to 1. The bet itself is returned, so in total it is multiplied by 36. Aplayer can bet on numbers, combinations, ranges, odds/evens, and colors. The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, eachof which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun.The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd andhalf even) plus a green section marked 0. American wheels have an additional green section marked 00. Forthis reason, Roulette is not as popular in United States casinos as it is inEurope. If Nevada rules are in force, you lose the entire even-moneybet on 0 or 00. Numbers 1-18 are considered the lows; numbers 19-36 are thehighs. Roulette is a banking game: all bets are placed against the house. The dealer spins a small ball in the opposite direction of thespinning wheel. After all bets are placed, the croupierspins the wheel in one direction and tosses the small ball in the oppositedirection. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem. Voisins ("Neighbors") - This is a name for the numbers which liebetween 22 and 25 on the wheel including 22 and 25 themselves. The series is22,18,29,7,28,12,35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2,25 (on a single zero wheel) Black, Red, Odd, Even, 1-18,19-36 - Pay 1 to 1. Dozen Bets: 1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12 - Pay 2 to 1.
