About Roulette
The first form of roulette was devised in 17th centuryFrance, by the mathematician Blaise Pascal, who was supposedly inspired by hisfascination with perpetual motion devices. A wheel having a corresponding set ofnumbers is spun. The bet wins if the number resulting from the spin matches thenumbers you bet upon. The odds vary depending upon the specific type bet. The main goal of the game is to bet on the slot where theroulette ball falls. American wheels have an additional green section marked 00. When Atlantic City rules are used in Roulette: For any even-money bets,if the ball lands on 0 or 00, half of the amount of any even-money bet isreturned to you. Numbers 1-18 are considered the lows; numbers 19-36 are thehighs. The dealer spins a small ball in the opposite direction of thespinning wheel. The ball comes to rest on one number – the winning number for thespin. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem. Straight-Up Bets - Pay 35 to 1. Place a chip on any single number. SplitBets - Pay 17 to 1. Place a chip in between any two adjacent numbers. Quad (Corner)Bets - Pay 8 to 1. Place a chip between any four number groupings, and you getall four numbers in that group. Column Bets- Pay 2 to 1. Place a chip in a box at the end of one of three columns.
