The American roulette is divided in to 38 slots, numbered 1 through 36, plus 0 and00. The European roulette wheel is divided into 37 slots, numbered 1 through 36,plus 0. In most roulette wheels in theUnited States but not in Europe, there is a second zero compartment marked 00,colored green. If a player bets on a single number and wins, the payout is35 to 1. The bet itself is returned, so in total it is multiplied by 36. The basic rules of Roulette are simple. The table layout consists of areaswhich represent a number or series of numbers. A wheel having a corresponding set ofnumbers is spun. The game uses a special wheel, a betting layout, andchips. The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, eachof which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun.The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd andhalf even) plus a green section marked 0. Tiers("The third") - This is the name for the numbers which lie on theopposite side of the wheel between 27 and 33 including 27 and 33 themselves.The series is 27,13,26,11,30,8,23,20,5,24,16,33 (on a single zero wheel)Orphelins ("Orphans") - These numbers make up the two slices of thewheel outside the Tiers and Voisins. They contain a total of eight numbers, theOrphans comprising 17,34,6 and the Orphelins being 1,20,14,31,9. Quad (Corner)Bets - Pay 8 to 1. Place a chip between any four number groupings, and you getall four numbers in that group. Double Street (SixNumber) Bets - Pay 5 to 1. Place a chip in between streets that are side byside to get all six numbers in the double streets. Column Bets- Pay 2 to 1. Place a chip in a box at the end of one of three columns.
