How to Play Roulette
(In some forms of early American roulette the double-zero wasreplaced by an American Eagle.) In the 1800s, roulette spread all over bothEurope and the U.S., becoming one of the most famous and most popular casinogames. Some call roulette the "King of Casino Games", probably becauseit was associated with the glamour of the casinos in Monte Carlo. The American roulette is divided in to 38 slots, numbered 1 through 36, plus 0 and00. Standard American roulette rules have the table usedifferent chips than other table games at the same casino. Roulette is a French word meaning"small wheel". The main pockets arenumbered from 1 to 36 and alternate between red and black, with number 1 beingred. In most roulette wheels in theUnited States but not in Europe, there is a second zero compartment marked 00,colored green. If a player bets on a single number and wins, the payout is35 to 1. The table layout consists of areaswhich represent a number or series of numbers. Bets are placed on these numbersby putting chips on the appropriate areas. The bet wins if the number resulting from the spin matches thenumbers you bet upon. The game uses a special wheel, a betting layout, andchips. American wheels have an additional green section marked 00. Theaddition of the 00 section greatly increases the odds in favor of the house. Numbers 1-18 are considered the lows; numbers 19-36 are thehighs. The dealer spins a small ball in the opposite direction of thespinning wheel. Players make bets by placingchips in various locations on the table. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem.
