In 1842, fellow Frenchmen Françoisand Louis Blanc added the "0" to the roulette wheel in order toincrease house odds. (In some forms of early American roulette the double-zero wasreplaced by an American Eagle.) In the 1800s, roulette spread all over bothEurope and the U.S., becoming one of the most famous and most popular casinogames. There are 2 types of roulette, American andEuropean. The American roulette is divided in to 38 slots, numbered 1 through 36, plus 0 and00. Roulette is a casino and gambling game. There is a green pocket numbered 0. In most roulette wheels in theUnited States but not in Europe, there is a second zero compartment marked 00,colored green. If a player bets on a single number and wins, the payout is35 to 1. Aplayer can bet on numbers, combinations, ranges, odds/evens, and colors. The basic rules of Roulette are simple. The bet wins if the number resulting from the spin matches thenumbers you bet upon. The game uses a special wheel, a betting layout, andchips. The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, eachof which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun.The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd andhalf even) plus a green section marked 0. Players make bets by placingchips in various locations on the table. Straight-Up Bets - Pay 35 to 1. Place a chip on any single number. SplitBets - Pay 17 to 1. Place a chip in between any two adjacent numbers. Quint Bet - Pays 6 to 1. The only possiblefive number grouping in the Roulette layout is 0-00-1-2-3. Double Street (SixNumber) Bets - Pay 5 to 1. Place a chip in between streets that are side byside to get all six numbers in the double streets. Dozen Bets: 1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12 - Pay 2 to 1.
