The first form of roulette was devised in 17th centuryFrance, by the mathematician Blaise Pascal, who was supposedly inspired by hisfascination with perpetual motion devices. There are 2 types of roulette, American andEuropean. The American roulette is divided in to 38 slots, numbered 1 through 36, plus 0 and00. The dealer spins a small ball in the opposite direction of thespinning wheel. When the ball comes to rest in one of the slots, the dealer willcall out the winning number and settle all bets. After all bets are placed, the croupierspins the wheel in one direction and tosses the small ball in the oppositedirection. There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached tothem. Voisins ("Neighbors") - This is a name for the numbers which liebetween 22 and 25 on the wheel including 22 and 25 themselves. The series is22,18,29,7,28,12,35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2,25 (on a single zero wheel) Street (Trio or Three Number) Bets - Pay 11 to 1.Place a chip on the horizontal line across the top of the layout on any of thetwelve columns of three numbers. Quint Bet - Pays 6 to 1. The only possiblefive number grouping in the Roulette layout is 0-00-1-2-3. Black, Red, Odd, Even, 1-18,19-36 - Pay 1 to 1.
